The Travel Assignment Group (TAG) based in Hyde Park, Gauteng; was founded by Jonathan Gerber, previously CEO of the Tourvest Outbound Division in 2008.
The founding philosophy of TAG is that the Travel Industry or at least the success of it is based on quality individuals. TAG therefore acquired Claudia’s Travel, Trigon Travel and Panda Travel, as it identified the need for a quality, midsized business that can provide quality travel management services in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
As one of Tourvest’s largest Franchises, TAG has access to fares, products, technology and associated benefits. However; TAG, its subsidiary companies and ITC’s are able to retain personalised qualities and superior service which have attracted their client base.
The Travel Assignment Group (TAG) comprises of the following group of companies.
JMG Travel Services Trigon Travel, Claudia’s Travel and Panda Travel
The above mentioned companies are one hundred percent owned by JMG Travel Services, which is a non-operating subsidiary of TAG. These companies offer the traditional corporate and leisure travel services known in the South African market place. All three companies are well established in their respective markets and have been offering service of a superior nature for a number of years, while retaining sought after corporate customers.
Trigon Travel operates from the City Centre of Cape Town. Claudia’s Travel and Panda Travel are both Gauteng based and operate from Hyde Park and Linbro Park respectively.
This is a specialist agency catering for the needs of the Independent Travel Companies that operate in South Africa. Their niche focus is on established ITC’s that have operated for some time, whom now require more flexibility in terms of their own needs. Since the founding of TAG, ITC Travel has become a household name in the ITC fold and has secured turnover in excess of R200 million during its first year. The success of ITC Travel and the attractiveness of the contracts and support offered to independent travel companies who are focussed on providing exceptional service to their customers.

After extensive research, TAG realised that there was a definite need for a fast and effective online booking offering and therefore invested in the TravelIt booking tool:
The system is designed in such a way that the customer can link specific travellers to cost centers and business units. The units can have specific approval processes based on travel limits, line management or by travel type. Furthermore travellers can be linked to either; a credit card, multiple cards, based on which cost centers or business units he/she is travelling for, or linked to card in pocket, where he/she is required to settle bills direct.
Travel IT is best designed to manage domestic travel. The system offers point to point regional and international bookings.
The system is extremely user friendly and requires very little training. The travel booker is required to use only one single screen, whereby either simple or complex bookings can be made. The online system is able to manage the complete booking requirement. The users should not have to complete certain other online or offline aspects of a trip, with a travel consultant.
In addition, the system offers simple online access to a wide selection of preferred vendors to successfully complete any booking, without requiring assistance from a consultant. These include; air, car, accommodation, visa, forex, transfer shuttle services, parking services etc. All bookings can be approved, modified and cancelled online, without the use of any travel consultants. Travellers will also receive all necessary travel documentation online too.
TAG’s growth and success to date include the following achievements:
