Packing smart helps keep everyone safe. Here’s what you need to know about travelling with power banks and portable power stations.
Power banks
Power banks are not allowed in checked baggage. The power bank may not exceed a maximum capacity of 100 Wh and must be individually packed to prevent short circuits if taken as carry-on luggage.
Portable Power Stations
Battery-operated portable power stations, such as rechargeable LED lanterns, may not be checked in. Strict adherence to the IATA Dangerous Goods regulations will be adhered to for all spare/loose batteries as well as b devices. To ensure your safety on board our flights, South African Airways has prohibited the carriage of LED lanterns in both hand baggage and checked baggage.
