South Africa’s international tourism performance

Overseas markets continue to anchor South Africa’s international tourism performance, with Europe and North America remaining key contributors to inbound travel.

Overseas tourists accounted for over 220,000 arrivals in February 2026, with countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States continuing to anchor demand. Together, these three markets alone contributed nearly half of all overseas arrivals for the month.

Beyond the top tier, markets including the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Australia and Canada also featured among the leading source countries, reinforcing the breadth of South Africa’s long-haul appeal. Notably, some markets showed strong year-on-year growth, including a marked increase in arrivals from Russia.

South Africa’s appeal to global travellers, supported by relatively accessible entry requirements across key markets and continued improvements in travel processes, remains an important enabler of sustained inbound demand.
