USA – US pilots to strike at a dozen US airports on September 1.
Strikes will take place in two-hour sessions at Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Detroit, JFK, Las Vegas, LAX, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Washington Reagan National, Orlando, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle airports.
US – Terminal C at Orlando International Airport is scheduled for September opening, with domestic operations beginning on September 26.
US – CDC adds Azerbaijan to Level 3 ‘high-risk’ & downgraded Morocco from Level 3 to ‘Level 2
UK – Loganair suspends 300 of its daily services. All daily flights from Cornwall Airport Newquay to Manchester between Nov & March 2023 have been cancelled.

Ethiopia/Jordan – Ethiopian Airlines will commence thrice-weekly flights to Amman, Jordan, from September 19
Netherlands – Dutch rail strike halts trains
France – Weather warning placed for Météo France – nearly half of the country under a yellow weather alert for storms
Germany – launched the world’s first fully hydrogen-powered passenger trains last week on a regional train line in Bremervörde, Lower Saxony
Hong Kong – reopens its Peak Tram
UAE/Nigeria – Emirates suspend all flights to Nigeria from Sept 1 to limit further losses & the impact on operational costs that continue to accumulate in the market.The airline has been experiencing ongoing challenges repatriating its US$85m (R1,44bn) in earnings from Nigeria back to the UAE.
SA/Cape Town – BA’s 3-weekly Gatwick-Cape Town flights welcomed. BA will operate a seasonal flight from Dec 13 until March 25, 2023 with 3 flights a week with its Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Flights depart Gatwick on Tues, Fri & Sun, with the return flights from Cape Town the following day.
SA/KZN – KZN’s Dolphin Coast welcomes a new boutique hotel, Sala Beach House opened this week. Privately owned & managed boutique hotel nestled between Ballito & Shaka’s Rock and offers uninterrupted ocean views of the Dolphin Coast, with private beach access to the protected tidal pool.
US – The US Department of Transportation (DoT) is planning new rules and measures that will ensure passenger rights are protected during flight cancellations & delays. In the plan launch, is a new website to give travellers information about what they are owed for flight disruptions.
Lufthansa – is in ongoing talks with union, Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), and will meet with them today (Tuesday, 30 August) to continue those talks. So said spokesperson for Lufthansa EMEA Media Relations, Boris Ogursky.
