A Full Recovery in Business Travel Spend is Anticipated in 2024

A full recovery in business travel spend is anticipated in 2024, with the market returning to levels last seen in 2019. Much has changed over the past five years, business travellers today are increasingly discerning when they travel, as they seek to derive the maximum value from each trip.

These changes and updates are explored in the new Business Travel Trends 2024 report, produced by Globetrender & Cytric Easy by Amadeus.
Jenny Southan, founder of Globetrender, stated: “When looking at the future of business travel in 2024, it’s clear that two macro shifts are happening in parallel: technology is making the planning and execution of trips ever-more seamless; but there is also a desire to ‘go back to basics’, which is manifesting in nature-based corporate retreats and the revival of ‘power lunches’.

TAG (Travel Assignment Group) Kriloshni Gounden Operations Team Leader also notes, “Corporate travel has definitely changed a lot, we have noticed changes. Before COVID, our corporate travellers were travelling vast and far. After COVID we did notice a slight decline in travel as many corporates opted initially to do virtual meetings. Thankfully, we now see that corporate travel has increased dramatically. Companies are re-embracing conferencing, done away with the virtual meetings & thriving on ‘face–to-face’ meets & gatherings.”

Krilo with her experienced team highlight some #tuesdaytraveltips, snags & suggestions aimed at the corporate traveller:

✈ Baggage & Visas – Be mindful when combining multiple airlines & destinations, baggage can be an issue as you will need to often clear passport control in the various countries & collect and check in baggage again.
✈ Online Check In– If you’re attending a meeting & you are not sure if you might finish earlier or later than expected, don’t do an online check in for your flight as it causes an extra delay in getting your flight changed, as we will have to contact airline to get you offloaded & then only will we be able to make the change. If you are not checked in, changing the flight is a lot quicker.
✈ Passports -Make sure that your passport are valid for at least 6 months from date of return & have at least three empty pages in your passport.
✈ SAFAIR cancellations & changes – SAFAIR has an option for a refundable ticket, however the cancellation needs to be done more than 24 hrs prior to departure in order to get a refund in a form of a travel voucher. Changes to a flight cannot be done less than 2 hrs prior to departure. If any changes are required it needs to be done more than 2 hrs prior to the flight departure time.

Reports show strategic getaways are set to soar in 2024. Scheduling team building days has often been used to bring people together, but a shift towards longer trips away, often in nature, is giving rise to the burgeoning trend.
