Three years ago I put a post on Instagram. The goal was to raise R700k and sponsor a young man at King Edward VII School boarding and school fees through the TAG Foundation TAG (Travel Assignment Group).
It gives me great pride to share that my very first boy Risima Russel Mgiba (who is currently in grade 10) has just been selected to represent the lions at u16A Grant Khomo week.
As of today I’ve raised close to R1M and have two boys at King Edward VII through the TAG Foundation. Lots more still to come from me but so proud of both these men ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping me raise these funds. I have no words to describe how grateful I am.
Below was my initial post on 30 May 2022.
In 2009, my parents Jonathan Gerber (a King Edward VII Old Boy) and Traci Gerber started TAG foundation. Initially they just wanted to change lives and make a difference in the world. As of today, 38 boys and 9 girls are sponsored through the foundation.
I have decided to raise funds to support this great cause and continue to give back to the foundation my parents started.
Coming from a place of privilege and having a family who is extremely close I have been given the chance not many kids in South Africa have. Many young boys and girls grow up with single parents or with broken families. They have to fight for everything in life and I want to be the person who gives them their chance to reach their full potential.
My campaign will be to raise enough money to support a boy through King Edward VII School for five years. Boarding and School fees. This will mean I need to raise R700K.
It takes a village to raise a child. I can’t do this alone!
Every child deserves to dream, all it takes is an opportunity and for someone to believe in them.
When doing some research, a TAG boy said “TAG Foundation to me is a family. The support is too much from all fronts whether it be sport or academic, and it just shows how much the foundation cares about us.” Lebo Selahla, Grade 12
“When I think of TAG Foundation, the first thing that comes to mind is an opportunity. TAG gives us, particularly me, a chance to prove that I am not just a generalised idea of what a township boy is.” Ndzalama Rikhotso, Grade 12
